Abstract:
There is a great benefit for a community to utilize renewable energy such as wind power in providing its power needs. These benefits can be listed under two categories, environmental and economic. If wind power is to be used for a certain community the first step would be to consider the recorded wind power in multiple locations to localize an area that has enough wind energy to turn the turbines and generate electrical power. This article studies the layout of the wind farm in Zahleh, Lebanon, along with the types of turbines to be utilized given the wind energy data for the specific area. The final parameter that is considered is the cost of the turbines that would be used from multiple manufacturers. An optimization study is carried out on all the aforementioned variables providing an optimal solution, given all the data, for the city of Zahleh.
