Abstract:
Reasons for conducting this Research
The primary objective of the study is to help and guide organizations and their teams in
identifying and selecting their performance measures by determining the critical factors
that have high impact on the selection process of performance measures.
The secondary objective of the study is to understand the evolution of performance
management and measurement, the main theories among performance management, and
the different performance measurement tools.
Objective ofthe Research Work
The primary objective of the study is to develop a model that will help organizations in
the identification and selection process of their performance measures, and to identify the
critical factors that will affect this process.
The secondary objective of the study will be to understand the evolution of performance
management, to define performance management, to analyze the different theories of
performance management and measurement. The different performance measurement
frameworks and their role in the identification / selection / development process of
performance measures will be identified.
Research Methodology
This research is exploratory and qualitative in nature and identifies four parts. In the first
part, research purpose and methodology will be analyzed. In the second part, secondary data research method will be used to review the literature of performance management
and performance measurement. In the third part, empirical research methods (i.e.,
experts' interview and organizations survey) will be used to investigate and propose the
model for the identification and selection process of performance measures. In the fourth
part, recommendations and limitations will be developed as a conclusion.
Findings
A model has been identified to help organizations in the identification and selection
process of their performance measures. It focuses on the relationship between the
corporation's internal performance, and the performance of its market actions.
Practical implications
This research provides a clear guidance for organizations in the selection process of their
performance measures by elaborating a customized strategic model which focuses on the
potential relationship between the corporation's practice in identifying, selecting,
developing, using performance measures on one hand, and the corporation's performance
in the market on the other hand. The model assists organizations in determining whether
the performance measures they have selected will contribute or not to their overall
performance at both organizational and market levels.
