The thesis is composed of two major parts and a conclusion. The first part
consists of a brief review of historical background of the Christian armed
resistance since the French Mandate in Syria until the outbreak of the
Lebanese civil war of 1975 and its aftermath. The second part is
concerned with the Lebanese Forces as an organization, its ideology and
its main organizational structures. This part covers as well the main
political and military activities of the Lebanese Forces during the war.
Ranging from the alliance with Israel, the chaotic period following the
assassination of Beshir Gemayel, the Tripartite agreement under Syrian patronage, and ending with the ferocious struggles for leadership, the
destructive war with Aoun' s army and the final stage of complete
deterioration. The second part lists the main events that have led to the
collapse of the Lebanese Forces, despite their declared acceptance of the
Tae'f Agreement and the attempts to reorganize the movement by many
players. |
