Abstract:
This research examines the background that triggered the creation of the South Lebanese
Army, the events that encouraged it to remain and its dismantle after 22 years of
collaborating with Israel. It tackles the major events that Lebanon in general and the
South in particular have gone through since the Cairo Agreement in 1969 till the Israeli
withdrawal and its impact and outcome on the southern region as well as on the other
Middle Eastern countries. The research also discusses thoroughly the South Lebanese
Army's built up, its development through the years and its disintegration. The study is
built upon different subjects related to the creation of the South Lebanese Army like the
southern Lebanese war, the economy of the southern region, the Israeli policy during its
occupation of the South, the Resistance phenomenon and the difficulties faced by the
South after Israel's withdrawal.
