The purpose of this study was to develop and pilot an instructional module called From 9 to 99 Math Helper: For Dyscalculia and Other Math Difficulties designed for individual tutoring. To that end this module was implemented over twelve sessions with an adult female diagnosed with math disability among others. Several constructivist based teaching strategies were used. At the end of the sessions, the participant demonstrated an understanding of concepts that she needed in her daily life such as: place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, basic fractions, units of length, mass, time, capacity, percentage, and problem solving. Posttest results showed significant improvement in calculation, math fluency and problem solving. It is expected that this module is beneficiary for adults in similar situations if implemented properly. |
