Abstract:
Although most organizations experience rough times throughout their lives, they must learn one important lesson; managers must like and understand people. They may not be in a chaotic state, but few argue that in order to grow, and even survive, organizations of all types can no longer afford to just do business as usual. Technologically, most organizations are doing great. On the human side, however, most organizations need to do better. To genuinely like people and to want to work with them seems to be a basic prerequisite for effective management in the 1990s.
Yet, however important and necessary it is to like people, it is not sufficient. Managers must also understand and be able to apply innovative techniques to better manage their human resources. Today’s organizations need a system that encourages employees at the workplace, and at the same time elicits self-control and development. Management By Objectives takes into consideration these facts and seeks to achieve and maintain a motivational climate that guarantees effective and efficient performance.
