Abstract:
Background: A dedicated cytopathologist (CP) is not routinely available during EUS exams in many centers. Some endosonographers ask the EUS technologist or cytotechnologists to assess the adequacy of FNA passes by the gross inspection of the slides, and consider modifying the number of passes accordingly. Objectives: To assess a grading system utilized by cytotechnologists or EUS technologists during gross visual inspection of FNA slides of solid pancreatic masses in reliably predicting specimen adequacy using the final cytologic diagnoses as gold standard.
