Abstract:
Background: For malignant biliary obstruction (MBO), self-expandable metallic stents (SEMS) provide greater durability compared to plastic stents (PS). Previous studies have raised the possibility of higher rates of post-ERCP pancreatitis (PEP) related to covered SEMS. Objective: Compare the rate of PEP in patients with MBO who undergo drainage with covered or uncovered SEMS compared to PS. Methods: We performed a retrospective, cohort analysis of patients who underwent ERCP for MBO between January, 2005 and October, 2008.
