Nearly missed GI stromal tumor: EUS diagnosis of a jejunal GI stromal tumor mistaken for a pancreatic mass on CT

Abstract

A 51-year-old man presented with a 2-month history of periumbilical pain, intermittent vomiting, and modest weight loss. On physical examination, he had mild periumbilical tenderness; laboratory studies, including amylase and lipase, were normal. Contrast-enhanced CT was notable for an arterially enhancing lesion in the pancreatic body suspicious for an islet cell tumor (A, arrow). On EUS, a hypoechoic, 18 × 14-mm round mass was seen near the pancreatic body; air adjacent to the lesion suggested that the mass was arising from the small intestine (B).
