| dc.description.abstract |
The rapid rise of the hospitality industry, the increased demand for well-rounded hospitality graduates and the constant changes in hospitality curricula require an evaluation of hospitality education and a formal definition of this discipline. This paper offers a definition of hospitality education and discusses its contribution to a university's mission, whether it is an applied or professional discipline and the responsibilities of hospitality educators. It is concluded that in a trade school setting, hospitality education is an applied discipline, but that in a university setting, it aspires to be a professional/academic discipline in an environment that has responsibilities to: customers, graduates, hospitality professionals, universities, and society. |
