dc.description.abstract In this study, the feasibility of harvesting wind power via wind turbines to produce electricity in specific sites in Lebanon will be investigated. Implementing such wind farms would greatly decrease the harmful emission of greenhouse gases produced by the energy sector devoted to electricity generation by fuel (El-Fadel et al., 2003). Furthermore, this will alleviate the deficiency in the electric power provided by Electricite Du Liban, which spends around $500 million worth of fuel oil each year for electricity generation (Green Line Association, 2007). Hourly wind speed data (2005–2007) at Beirut, Zahleh, Sour (Tyre), and El-Abdeh were thoroughly investigated to assess the wind energy potential of these sites. Promising results were obtained, especially in Beirut and Zahleh, where wind turbines could be installed to complement the main grid with electric power during the peak hours. This comprehensive study estimated Lebanon's wind energy potential that might encourage future investments in the promising field of renewable energy. en_US
