Abstract:
Transformational leadership, characterized by youth motivation and their will to change, has been recognized for its potential influence and impact on learners’ ability to overcome academic challenges and enhance their performance. This study examines the role of youth transformational leadership in fostering academic resilience and achievement in a Lebanese school. Using a mixed-methods approach, this research integrates qualitative data collection conducted through interviews and observations for student leaders, with quantitative data collection collected through surveys administered to students to assess the correlations between transformational leadership traits, academic resilience, and achievement. The findings show a positive correlation between youth transformational leadership and academic resilience. Findings further indicate that students who exhibit leadership behaviors, such as collaborative problem-solving, initiative taking, and peer support, are more likely to persevere through academic challenges, and encourage resilience among their peers. Additionally, qualitative insights indicate that student leaders promote self-directed learning, motivation, and supportive classroom environments that enhance collective academic performance.
The study highlights the importance of embedding youth leadership development programs within schools to empower students with the needed skills to overcome academic and personal challenges. It suggests that mentoring programs and leadership initiatives can promote individual academic success, and also strengthen school-level resilience and achievement. These findings offer valuable suggestions for educators, school leaders, and policymakers who aim to build inclusive, achievement-oriented learning environments through youth empowerment.
