Abstract

PURPOSE: A pneumothorax is a clinical condition where gas occupies the pleural space. A tension pneumothorax (TP) is when a pneumothorax leads to hemodynamic instability due to obstructive shock. Most cases of primary pneumothorax occur spontaneously in younger patients however older patients tend to present with secondary pneumothorax due to underlying pulmonary disease such as emphysema.
