Abstract:
This capstone examines the complex dynamics of the Soviet-Egypt alliance during the Six-Day War of 1967. Through a detailed analysis of Soviet foreign policy, it explores the multifaceted motivations behind the USSR's support for Egypt and other Arab nations. The research elucidates how the Soviet Union sought to counteract U.S. influence, expand its geopolitical reach, and advance socialism by aligning with anti-imperialist movements. However, it also addresses the drawbacks, such as the dependency on Soviet support that constrained Egypt’s autonomy and complicated its foreign policy. Through this lens, the research provides a nuanced understanding of the interplay between local aspirations and superpower interests during a pivotal period in Middle Eastern history.
