Abstract
Background: With the rise of social media platforms, many adolescents are having negative perceptions about their physical appearance due to the comparison of their bodies to unrealistic and edited pictures of supermodels, influencers, or celebrities. This unhealthy behavior is affecting the young adults’ psychological health and may cause eating disorders. Previous research has shown that nature exposure is related to more positive body image and may lead to an improved mental state of body figure.
Aim: The present study aimed to assess the role of nature exposure and its impact on body image and mental health. The present literature review will explore the influence of nature exposure on body appreciation, and its effects on psychological state.
Method: A 12 minutes survey was filled by a total of 350 participants, all above the age of 18 years old which represented a sample of the Lebanese population.
Results: The current findings suggest that there is a strong association between the access to nature and positive body figure appreciation which influences the overall psychological well-being.
Conclusion: To sum it up, the engagement with natural environments can promote a healthier body image and well- being.
