Abstract:
This thesis traces the development of modern interior decoration in Beirut with reference to the
middle-income group or middle class families. Since the
modern style is in expensive and aims at combining comfort, function and practicality; it is within the means of the
middle-class families and does not require special efforts to keep it in good shape. Interviews with modern decorators, architects and sellers of interior decoration were carried out in
regards to the development of modern interior decoration in Beirut. This thesis includes a study of fourteen selected
middle-income modern homes in Beirut, all of which were
apartments. The dominant problem is stressed in the
analysis of every house. The study aims to cover the
subject from the artistic functional} social and expressive
points of view. Photographic illustrations are employed to support the writers observations and statements.
