dc.description.abstract The Department of English at LAU is hosting a lecture titled: “Digital Screens and Tablets: What Your Parents Didn’t Know and Your Teachers Didn’t Tell You” by Deema Dakakni. Abstract As university instructors, professionals, and parents, we find the influence of technology not only ubiquitous, but almost uncompromisingly demanding. Furthermore, as professionals and pioneers of various disciplines, we believe that it is up to us to prod students to further utilize technology to better hone in on their research and their general knowledge, adding more to their experiential database. Having said this, there has been a growing corpus of research that seems to negate the rendered benefits of technology use in the world of academia, and more so in the classroom, at large and the LANGUAGE classroom, specifically. Thus, the focus of this lecture will revolutionize an idea once thought to be revolutionary: in that we need to revisit computer-based work/assignments and bring them back to a relative minimum, due to the repercussions that it is having on students, academicians and administrators alik en_US
